Nissan TB engine
The Nissan TB straight-six petrol engine was released in 1987 as the TB42. Bore and stroke were 96 × 96 mm (3.8 × 3.8 in). Cubic capacity was 4169 cc (254.39 cubic inch displacement). The engine was released with a two-barrel carburettor and a point type distributor. It was used in the Nissan Patrol Y60 and Y61 series.
TB42E and TB42S
In 1992 the TB42E emerged with electronic fuel injection and electronic ignition. At this time the TB42 was re-labeled as TB42S.

TB45E and TB45S
In 1997 the TB45 was produced. The cylinder bore was increased to 99.5mm but the stroke remained at 96mm. It was available as TB45S (with carburettor and electronic ignition) or TB45E (with electronic fuel injection and electronic ignition).

In 2001 the TB48 surfaced, with 99.5mm bore, 102mm stroke and double overhead camshaft. Shadowing the mainstream TB42/45 they were released as plain engines, which has seen them used in forklifts etc.

 Delivering more power and torque, the potent TB48DE 4800 Twincam 24-valve gasoline engine is also equipped with VTC and NICS to provide the Patrol with exceptional off-road performance and impressive top speed on the highway.
This engine has attracted many Arab tuners as modification like addition of turbo kits boosted the power upto or more than 8000Hp which made them use this engines to swallow challenges like SUV drag races and sand dunes climbing. There happened to be a situation where the SWB Patrol was installed with the modified TB48 engine which kicked the top speed upto 654KM/Hr. This engine has also made a history of beating high end exotic cars once after modification.
